Exercises and Stretches — Infraspinatus

Reaching-Up Shoulder Stretch

    Technique: • Place one hand behind your back • Move it up and try to reach between your shoulder blades   Primary muscles: Supraspinatus. Infraspinatus. Secondary muscles: Pectoralis major. Teres minor. Anterior deltoid. Coracobrachialis.   Injury where stretch may be useful: Dislocation. Subluxation. Acromioclavicular separation. Sternoclavicular separation. Impingement syndrome. Rotator cuff tendonitis. Shoulder bursitis. Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis).   Note: The rotator cuff muscles of the shoulder are often very tight. Elbow Out Rotator Stretch

      Technique: • Stand straight • Place your hand behind you, in the middle of your back • Point your elbow out • Reach over with your other hand and gently pull your elbow forward   Primary muscles: Infraspinatus. Teres minor. Secondary muscles: Supraspinatus.   Injury where stretch may be useful: Dislocation. Subluxation. Acromioclavicular separation. Sternoclavicular separation. Impingement syndrome. Bent Arm Shoulder Stretch

    Technique: Stand straight Raise your arm so that it is parallel to the ground and bend it at a 90 degree angle Place that arm across your body Pull your elbow towards your opposite shoulder   Primary muscles: Trapezius. Rhomboids. Latissimus dorsi. Posterior deltoid. Secondary muscles: Infraspinatus. Teres minor.   Injury where stretch may be useful: Dislocation. Subluxation. Acromioclavicular separation. Sternoclavicular separation. Impingement syndrome. Rotator cuff tendonitis. Shoulder bursitis.
