Fredrick R. Abrams, M.D., received his medical degree from Cornell University and for over forty years specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. At Rose Medical Center in Denver, he founded the first center for the study of ethical issues in a community-hospital set- ting in the U.S. As former chair of the Ethics Committee of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, he helped write the guidelines for its 25,000 members.

In 2003, the Department of Bioethics and Humanities of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award, for “helping to create such a fertile ground for bioethics in Colorado.” He is also the recipient of the 2006 Isaac Hays, M.D. and John Bell, M.D. Award for Leadership in Medical Ethics and Professionalism, presented by the American Medical Association.

Dr. Abrams has been published in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and many other periodicals. He lives in Denver, Colorado.
