The Pelvic Floor: Assessment, Function, and Treatment Strategies

A nursing-focused course that translates pelvic floor assessment, function, communication, safety screening, referral, and treatment principles into respectful, scope-aware clinical practice.

Presented by Sonja Forster, physiotherapist and certified yoga teacher.

6.00 CNE Hours Accredited continuing nursing education.
IPCE Credit Planned for the healthcare team.
Online Learning Course content, clinical learning activities, quiz questions, and final assessment.

Course Description

This course helps nurses understand pelvic floor health as a whole-person clinical issue that may affect bladder function, bowel function, pelvic pain, sexual wellbeing, pelvic pressure, posture, movement confidence, postnatal recovery, work, relationships, sleep, and quality of life. Learners explore how pelvic floor symptoms may be connected to breath, core function, abdominal pressure, constipation, pain, trauma history, pregnancy or birth history, movement habits, and patient confidence.

The course does not aim to turn every nurse into a pelvic floor specialist or authorise internal assessment, manual therapy, or exercise prescription outside scope. Instead, it gives nurses a practical framework for opening sensitive conversations respectfully, recognising symptom patterns, screening for red flags, documenting clearly, supporting education within scope, and coordinating care with suitably qualified pelvic health, medical, continence, maternity, pain, mental health, or safeguarding services.
