Integrative Craniosacral Therapy: Principles and Hands-On Techniques (CNE)
This course introduces nurses to core principles and practical concepts used in integrative craniosacral therapy. Learners explore how gentle touch, anatomical awareness, therapeutic presence, tissue listening, pacing, consent, and patient response can shape a safer and more patient-centred approach to care. The course does not automatically authorise nurses to practise CranioSacral Therapy, craniosacral therapy, manual therapy, or specialist bodywork techniques outside their professional scope. Instead, it supports nursing clinical literacy: understanding the language and rationale behind CST-informed care, recognising safety and referral boundaries, communicating appropriately with patients and practitioners, documenting clearly, and applying relevant principles through comfort, consent, observation, and coordinated care. Understand introductory craniosacral concepts including gentle contact, tissue listening, anatomical relationships, patient response, and non-forcing care. Develop literacy around selected hands-on approaches while recognising the training, authorisation, consent, supervision, and scope required for clinical application. Apply consent, privacy, trauma-informed communication, patient-led pacing, comfort monitoring, red-flag awareness, and professional boundaries. Use CST-informed reasoning to improve patient comfort, referral quality, documentation, interdisciplinary communication, and coordinated care. The learning pathway moves from craniosacral principles and technique awareness into safety, scope, patient response, referral decisions, and clinical integration. Important scope note: Nursing scope varies by country, region, register, employer policy, job role, training, competence, consent requirements, supervision arrangements, and indemnity or insurance. Some nurses may be authorised to use selected touch-based or CST-informed support in specific settings. Others may not. Completion of this course does not qualify, certify, license, or authorise the learner to practise CranioSacral Therapy, craniosacral therapy, manual therapy, or any other specialist intervention unless the learner already holds separate training, competence, professional authorisation, and approval to do so within their jurisdiction and workplace. This course is suitable for nurses working in clinical practice, rehabilitation, pain management, sports medicine-adjacent care, community care, wellness, supportive care, and interdisciplinary settings. It is especially relevant for nurses who want to understand CST-informed clinical language, communicate safely with bodywork and rehabilitation professionals, support patient comfort, and maintain clear professional boundaries. Kelly Saxton, MS, ATC, LAT, LMT, CST-T, is a seasoned professional with extensive experience spanning East Carolina University to Penn State, where she served as an athletic trainer for elite NCAA teams and contributed to three national championships. Her background brings together athletic training, massage therapy, and CranioSacral Therapy teaching. Kelly joins the NAT Global Campus online teaching faculty to share her expertise in Continuing Education courses on CranioSacral Therapy. Her teaching offers a valuable resource for learners interested in expanding their CST knowledge, broadening clinical understanding, and developing safer, more thoughtful practice awareness.
