Presented by Massage Therapist and Doula Jennie Bingham.

5.00 CNE Hours Accredited continuing nursing education.
IPCE Credit Planned for the healthcare team.
Online Learning Course content, clinical learning activities, quiz questions, and final assessment.

Course Description

This course helps nurses understand how prenatal massage principles may support comfort, rest, positioning, movement confidence, emotional safety, and coordinated care for pregnant, laboring, and postpartum patients. It connects trimester-specific changes, common discomforts, circulation and edema concerns, DVT vigilance, labor support, postpartum recovery, feeding-related posture strain, and referral pathways to practical nursing decisions.

The course does not assume that every nurse will perform prenatal massage techniques. Depending on local scope, role, training, employer policy, supervision, consent, and insurance, some nurses may be able to provide selected pregnancy-related touch or comfort support. Others will use the course primarily to improve screening, positioning, communication, patient education, referral quality, and documentation.

What You Will Learn

Pregnancy-Safe Comfort

Understand how prenatal massage principles may support comfort, relaxation, sleep, body confidence, labor coping, and postpartum recovery.

Scope, Consent, and Screening

Recognise why gestational stage, medical history, high-risk factors, consent, local policy, and referral pathways must guide every decision.

Positioning and Circulation Safety

Apply pregnancy-informed positioning, bolstering, side-lying support, edema awareness, DVT caution, and pressure adaptation principles.

Labor and Postpartum Support

Connect comfort touch, movement, emotional safety, feeding posture, rest, recovery needs, red flags, and coordinated follow-up.

Course Pathway

The learning pathway moves from prenatal comfort principles into screening, stage-specific adaptation, labor support, postpartum care, referral, and documentation.
