WHY THIS COURSE MATTERS

Post-natal breast care calls for knowledge, sensitivity and clear professional boundaries.

The postpartum and lactation period can bring rapid physical changes, breast fullness, tissue discomfort and uncertainty about what is normal. Supportive hands-on care must be grounded in relevant anatomy, gentle technique, informed consent and an understanding of when massage is appropriate—and when referral is needed.

Brianne brings together nursing, lactation and infant-development expertise to make this specialist subject practical and approachable. The course emphasizes client comfort, respectful communication and techniques that can be adapted thoughtfully within each participant’s professional scope.

THE TWO LIVE SESSIONS

Build the clinical foundation, then develop the practical approach.

Session One: Post-natal breast anatomy, physiology and assessmentReview lactation-related breast changes, tissue considerations and common sources of discomfort. Explore client history, observation, consent, positioning and the clinical reasoning that informs safe treatment planning.
Session Two: Therapeutic lactation-massage techniquesSee gentle techniques demonstrated and learn how pacing, pressure, draping and client feedback can guide supportive hands-on care. Consider appropriate modifications, aftercare and circumstances that require referral.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe relevant breast anatomy, lactation physiology and common post-natal tissue changes.
  • Explain the principles, potential applications and limitations of therapeutic lactation massage.
  • Use informed consent, appropriate draping, positioning and communication for professional breast and chest-area work.
  • Demonstrate gentle massage approaches that prioritize comfort, tissue response and client feedback.
  • Recognize precautions, warning signs and presentations that require modification, medical evaluation or referral to an appropriately qualified lactation or healthcare professional.
