Stretching in Clinical Practice

Understanding Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)

5 Hours CE/CPD | Online CE Course with Dr. Cory McMillen, DAT

Build a clearer, more evidence-informed understanding of stretching, flexibility, and the clinical use of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) techniques.

Self-Paced Online CE Course | 5 Hours CE/CPD | Includes full webinar recordings, downloadable course materials, online exam, CE certificate and lifetime access.

Overview

Stretching is one of the most widely used interventions in rehabilitation and manual therapy. Yet many clinicians still rely on routines or outdated assumptions rather than a clear understanding of when, why, and how different stretching techniques should be applied in clinical practice.

In this engaging online CE course, Dr. Cory McMillen provides a practical, evidence-informed exploration of stretching and flexibility designed specifically for rehabilitation and manual therapy professionals.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the physiology of stretching, the factors that influence flexibility, and how different techniques can be applied safely and effectively in treatment settings.

Through clear explanations and practical demonstrations, the course explores dynamic, static, ballistic, active, passive, and PNF stretching techniques while helping clinicians determine which approach is most appropriate for specific patient presentations.

Course Focus

This course also addresses important considerations such as hypermobility, neuromuscular control, and the physiological mechanisms underlying flexibility and tissue adaptation.

By the end of the course, participants will have a stronger framework for integrating stretching into rehabilitation programs and manual therapy treatment plans.

What You’ll Learn

  • The difference between flexibility and stretching
  • The role of hypermobility and factors that limit flexibility
  • Key physiological mechanisms involved in stretching
  • Different types of stretching techniques, including dynamic, static, ballistic, active, and passive stretching
