Prenatal Massage: Safe Techniques and the Benefits for Every Stage of Pregnancy (CNE)
This course helps nurses understand how prenatal massage principles may support comfort, rest, positioning, movement confidence, emotional safety, and coordinated care for pregnant, laboring, and postpartum patients. It connects trimester-specific changes, common discomforts, circulation and edema concerns, DVT vigilance, labor support, postpartum recovery, feeding-related posture strain, and referral pathways to practical nursing decisions. The course does not assume that every nurse will perform prenatal massage techniques. Depending on local scope, role, training, employer policy, supervision, consent, and insurance, some nurses may be able to provide selected pregnancy-related touch or comfort support. Others will use the course primarily to improve screening, positioning, communication, patient education, referral quality, and documentation. Understand how prenatal massage principles may support comfort, relaxation, sleep, body confidence, labor coping, and postpartum recovery. Recognise why gestational stage, medical history, high-risk factors, consent, local policy, and referral pathways must guide every decision. Apply pregnancy-informed positioning, bolstering, side-lying support, edema awareness, DVT caution, and pressure adaptation principles. Connect comfort touch, movement, emotional safety, feeding posture, rest, recovery needs, red flags, and coordinated follow-up. The learning pathway moves from prenatal comfort principles into screening, stage-specific adaptation, labor support, postpartum care, referral, and documentation. Important scope note: Nursing scope varies by country, region, register, employer policy, job role, training, competence, consent requirements, supervision arrangements, and indemnity or insurance. Some nurses may be authorised to perform selected prenatal massage-informed comfort or therapeutic techniques in specific settings. Others may not. Learners must follow the requirements that apply to their own professional role and location. This course is suitable for nurses working in maternity, labor and delivery, postpartum care, community health, family health, women's health, primary care, rehabilitation, wellness, supportive care, and interdisciplinary settings. It is especially relevant for nurses who want to understand pregnancy-safe comfort principles, support patient dignity and choice, recognise when pregnancy or postpartum symptoms require escalation, and communicate more effectively with maternity and wider healthcare professionals. In support of improving patient care, this course has been planned and implemented by AKH Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare and Neil Asher. AKH Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 5.00 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credit for learning and change.Course Description
