Stretching in Clinical Practice
Stretching in Clinical Practice: Understanding Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
Live CE Webinar Series with Dr. Cory McMillen, DAT
Stretching is one of the most widely used interventions in rehabilitation and manual therapy. Yet many clinicians still rely on routines or outdated assumptions rather than a clear understanding of when, why, and how different stretching techniques should be applied in clinical practice.
In this engaging two-part webinar series, Dr. Cory McMillen, Doctorate in Athletic Training at the University of Pennsylvania, provides a practical, evidence-informed exploration of stretching and flexibility. Designed specifically for massage therapists, physiotherapists, athletic trainers, and rehabilitation professionals, this course focuses on the clinical reasoning behind stretching interventions and the appropriate use of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) techniques.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the physiology of stretching, the factors that influence flexibility, and how different techniques can be applied safely and effectively in treatment settings. Through clear explanations and practical demonstrations, Dr. McMillen will guide participants through the differences between dynamic, static, ballistic, active, passive, and PNF stretching, helping clinicians determine which approach is most appropriate for specific patient presentations.
This course also addresses important considerations such as hypermobility, neuromuscular control, and the physiological mechanisms underlying flexibility and tissue adaptation. By the end of the series, participants will have a stronger framework for integrating stretching into rehabilitation programs and manual therapy treatment plans.
Whether you are new to clinical stretching techniques or looking to refine your approach, this webinar series will help you move beyond generic stretching routines and apply targeted, evidence-informed strategies in your clinical practice.
