1. Biomechanics of the Lower Body (9 hrs)

What can we do when the simple act of walking, jogging or running goes wrong? Should we wait until our clients experience pain or problems before we intervene and what are our treatment options when gait goes awry?

Objectives:

This course will help you understand the role and function of myofascia in normal gait.

We present the most efficient biomechanical paths that take advantage of the properties of myofascial chains.

We present the ‘essential events’ required to take place for ideal technique to be achieved and learn what commonly goes wrong.

You will learn a variety of tools and techniques to restore efficient movement and decrease the incidence of injuries.

We will cover:

The role and function of fascia.
Key myofascial and anatomical links through the body.
Explain the sequence of essential events required for ideal walking technique.
Key components of a biomechanical assessment including the biomechanics of the feet.
Examine some common movement errors and injuries.
Outline treatment of common injuries.
Incorporate the role of core stability in management and prevention.
Apply theory of myofascial chains into a selection of exercises to manage and prevent injury (strengthening, flexibility, motor control and coordination).
Discuss contribution of footwear and the indications for orthotic correction.
You will learn how you can help yourself and your clients to enjoy sustainable physical activity in your work, leisure time and family life.

The concepts covered are based on the arts and science of Anatomy Trains, Biomechanics and Core Stability.

The course consists of over 2 hours of video tutorials, a 200 page illustrated text; " Born to Walk" and comprehensive 130 page course notes.

2. NAT Pilates Foundation Course (6 hrs)

This course combines the most current research around core stabilization with six fundamental Pilates principles to offer simple, easy-to-use strategies for helping you help yourself and your clients relieve discomfort and improve pain-free movement.

The course video tutorials and 160 page illustrated text provide Pilates Practitioners; Massage and Manual Therapists with a comprehensive understanding of how the core functions, and how stabilization helps promote health and proper movement patterns through the development of balanced muscles, joint alignment, and core control.

Includes current research on neuroplasticity, the brain’s capacity to reorganize itself by developing new neuronal connections, and on the function of fascia, to explain the six fundamental principles of Pilates—Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath, and Flow.

Course Objectives:

Learn how the 6 Pilates Principles can restore functional balance and promote optimal movement patterns.

To discuss the functional core and ways it should operate for proper function.

Learn how to balance the deep and superficial myofascial systems with breathing techniques.

Use the Self Myofascial Release Technique to help promote the parasympathetic nervous system.

Determine what habituation from daily routines may be causing dysfunctional postural and movement patterns.

3. Movement for Menopause (10 hrs)

The core competencies of a massage therapist call for the integration of systemic disorders, conditions and treatments into client care and our assessments offer the ideal opportunity to screen for seemingly unrelated health conditions.

As therapists it is entirely possible that we are the first professional that a woman will disclose potential menopausal symptoms to. Therapists spend time with clients, the time so often lacking within a medical consultation.

Better still, our therapeutic interventions can legitimately incorporate appropriate exercises and pain and stress management techniques that are integral to a holistic approach into client care.

The course video tutorials and 160 page illustrated text and comprehensive 300 page workbook provide Pilates Practitioners; Massage and Manual Therapists with a comprehensive understanding of how the core functions, and how stabilization helps promote health and proper movement patterns through the development of balanced muscles, joint alignment, and core control. It discusses the menopause in detail, the symptoms, the long term health consequences and how Pilates can help to alleviate them.
